The Massive Head Understands

I noticed the sociological, psychological, and aesthetic similarities between 20thC vintage comic books and 19th C Japanese book illustration. I combined the two into a hybrid form that gives new power (and humor) to both comic book imagery and Japanese print imagery. These forms are combined in such a way as to create the illusion of a single, unified work. Viewers can easily access the work through the imagery or go deeper to see the connections of the subject matter (love, violence, heroism, storytelling, etc.). Color is bold; the technique radical. The process was surprising as it was enjoyable. From the series, "Floating World Comix."
